Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Crown ("Crown", "we", "us") is a mobile marketplace that connects people looking for a haircut ("clients") with independent barbers ("barbers"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the Crown mobile app and bookcrwn.app.

By using Crown, you agree to this Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account information — when you sign up we collect your name, and an email address and/or mobile phone number, through our authentication provider (Clerk). You may instead sign in with Apple or Google, which shares basic account details with us.
• Profile information — profile and cover photos, an optional Instagram handle, and, for barbers, your business name, shop or service address, services and pricing, working hours, and policies.
• Booking content — reference photos and notes you attach to a booking, and (for barbers) before-and-after and portfolio photos.
• Messages — the in-app messages you exchange with the barber or client for an appointment.
• Reviews — the ratings and written reviews you submit.
• Support — information you provide when you contact us.

Information collected automatically

• Location — with your permission, your device location (precise or approximate) so we can show barbers near you, estimate travel distance and time, and support mobile ("comes-to-you") bookings. You can turn this off in your device settings; some features won't work without it.
• Booking & activity data — appointments you make, their status, deposits or no-show records, and related activity.
• Device & notifications — a push-notification token for your device, and basic technical/diagnostic data needed to operate the app reliably.

Payments

Crown does not currently process in-app payments or store card numbers. Today, you pay your barber in person. If in-app payments or deposits launch in the future, payment details will be handled by a PCI-compliant payment processor and this Policy will be updated before that happens.

3. Booking on the web without an account

You can book a barber from a barber's web page (bookcrwn.app/their-handle) without downloading the app or creating an account. When you book this way, we collect the information you type into the booking form: your name and phone number (required to confirm the appointment), and, if you choose to add them, your email and home address.

If you enter a home address, we convert it into map coordinates (a process called geocoding) so the barber can find you for a mobile, comes-to-you appointment. We use Mapbox for this. We store the address and its coordinates with your booking; we do not use your address for anything other than the appointment you requested.

To show you a quick heads-up when a barber may be far from you, we use an approximate location estimated from your internet connection (your IP address), provided by Cloudflare. This is a rough, city-level estimate, it is calculated on our server, it is never shared with the barber or any other third party, and it is used only to display the distance warning — which is approximate and may be wrong. You can always book anyway.

To keep the booking form free of spam and bots, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that submissions come from a real person. Submitting a booking on the web means you agree to this Privacy Policy.

4. How we use information

We use the information above to:

• Create and manage your account and authenticate you securely.
• Operate the core service — show barbers, take and manage bookings, deliver messages, and post reviews.
• Use location to find nearby barbers and estimate travel for mobile appointments.
• Send transactional notifications — booking confirmations, reminders, changes, and messages — and optional updates you can control in Settings.
• Protect Crown and our users — prevent fraud, abuse, and no-show misuse, and enforce our Terms.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the app.
• Comply with legal obligations.

5. How we share information

We share personal information only as described here. We do not sell your personal information.

Between clients and barbers

Crown is a two-sided marketplace, so completing a booking necessarily shares information between the two parties. When you book, the barber receives the details needed to provide the service — your name, the appointment, the services requested, any reference photos and notes, and (for mobile appointments you request) the location you provide. A barber's public profile, services, reviews, and approximate location are shown to clients. Messages are shared with the person you're messaging.

Service providers

We use trusted companies to run Crown. They may process your information only to provide services to us:

• Clerk — account authentication and identity.
• Supabase — database hosting and file/photo storage.
• Expo — push-notification delivery.
• Mapbox — maps, travel-time estimates, and turning a typed address into map coordinates. Mapbox receives the address text or coordinates involved, not your identity.
• Cloudflare — web hosting and security for bookcrwn.app, an approximate IP-based location used only for the on-site distance heads-up, and Turnstile bot/spam protection on the booking form.

Legal, safety, and business transfers

We may disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, to protect the rights, safety, or property of Crown or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with notice where required).

6. Linking your bookings to your account

If you book as a guest on the web and later create a Crown account using the same phone number or email, we may connect that earlier booking and the details you provided to your new account, so your appointment and history are all in one place. We do this to give you a single, accurate record of your bookings — not to build a profile of you for advertising.

7. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we must retain certain records to comply with legal, tax, security, or dispute-resolution obligations. Backups and logs are purged on a rolling basis.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to respond promptly to any incident.

9. Your choices and rights

• Access & update — view and edit your profile information in the app at any time.
• Delete your account — you can permanently delete your account and associated data from Settings → Account.
• Location — granted and revoked in your device's system settings.
• Notifications — manage push and email preferences in Settings, or disable them in your device settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — such as to access, correct, delete, or port your information, or to opt out of certain processing. To exercise any of these, contact us at support@bookcrwn.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

10. Children's privacy

Crown is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old to use Crown, and at least 18 to offer services as a barber. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Where your data is handled

Crown is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored on our providers' infrastructure, which may be located in the United States. If you use Crown from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Crown after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
